Excursions

Sorrento
A charming resort overlooking the Bay of Naples set just a short distance from the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii and Capri, Sorrento is brimming with ancient Roman history, plunging cliffs and lemon groves for students to explore – all set against a stunning seaside backdrop. We know your group will love wandering around the town centre, where museums sit alongside palatial hotels, marquetry shops and excellent Sorrentine restaurants.

Coffee & Honey Factory
Gain an insight into traditional Italian flavours and traditions at this coffee and honey factory, which will show students the authentic ways of creating both food products. Students will develop an appreciation for coffee roasting, and understand how the coffee journey progresses from farm to bean to cup. For students who don't mind the strong taste of coffee, they can then taste test a traditional Italian espresso.

Mozzarella Farm
An essential ingredient in Italian cuisine, mozzarella and its production is an important part of the country’s culture. On this excursion, we can’t wait to show you how the soft cheese is made, with a detailed demonstration provided to your group before they can taste some fresh mozzarella for themselves. Delicious!

Pompeii
Contemplate the disastrous impact of the 79 AD eruption of Mount Vesuvius with a guided tour of Pompeii – a major city that was buried by volcanic ash and pumice. Following centuries of incredible excavations, Pompeii was found beneath the ash, and makes up some of the best-preserved ruins of the Bay of Naples.

Davide Ice Cream Parlour
Home to a huge selection of flavours, from ricotta and pear to wild strawberry, Davide is one of Sorrento’s favourite ice cream parlours, and the best location for school groups to try this Italian speciality. On this excursion, students will receive a demonstration on how to make Italy's most beloved frozen dessert, before indulging in a tasting session. Yum!

Vesuvius
Students can study the history, geography and geology of this magnificent active volcano on a school trip to Vesuvius, one of several volcanoes which form the Campanian volcanic arc. Best known for its volcanic eruption in 79 AD that left devastating effects on the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, we know students will love getting up close with the volcano.

Limoncello Factory with Lemon Garden
Give your students a taste of true Sorrentine flavour with a visit to one of the region’s Limoncello factories, where they’ll be able to explore the lemon garden and understand the efforts that go into the locally produced liquor, as well as lemon jams and lemon cakes. Citrus fruits grown in the Amalfi region are known for their higher acidity and vitamin C content – but can your students tell the difference?

Pasta Factory in Gragnano Visit
Known as the ‘Città della Pasta’ (City of Pasta), Gragnano is a small town located on the Amalfi Coast approximately 25 kilometres from Sorrento. The town became famous in the late 1700s for its production of macaroni (known then as ‘white gold’) and dry pasta – making it the perfect location for students to learn about the traditions and culture surrounding this much-loved Italian speciality.

Pizza Making with Tarantella Show & Dinner
During your stay in the Bay of Naples, why not head to a local pizzeria for a class on how to make authentic Neapolitan pizza? Students will learn how to make the perfect pizza base before topping it with their own favourite ingredients, then tasting the final product as they experience the classical Italian folk dance, Tarantella. An evening of cultural immersion we know school groups will love getting involved in.
