Spanish language school trips to Malaga

One of the oldest ports in the Mediterranean, Malaga – located on southern Spain’s Costa Del Sol – offers plenty of educational opportunities for school trips. A quieter city than Madrid and Barcelona, language trips to Malaga mean your students might have excursions entirely to themselves, as well as the attentions of the locals to practise their Spanish with. By exploring Spanish culture with a visit to the renaissance cathedral of La Manquita, the Picasso museum or even a flamenco lesson and some tapas, we know they’ll return to the classroom more motivated than before.

Excursions

Malagueta Beach

Perfect for relaxing and games, we highly recommend student groups spend an hour or so at Malagueta Beach on the Malaga coast. As well as swimming and leisure activities, school groups can take a picture with the “Malagueta” letter sculpture to commemorate an unforgettable trip.

Spanish Lesson

We’ve got connections with several language schools in the Malaga area, and can tailor your lesson programme according to your requirements. Student groups can learn new vocabulary and then put their learnings to the test while exploring Malaga, enhancing their experience.

Parque de Malaga

One of the most beautiful sights in Malaga, this 33-hectare green space has been designed as a complete landscape with curved lines that frame and define its islands. Between the park’s botanical gardens and fountains, students can browse several kiosks and stands, and seek out the garden’s numerous statues – many of which are dedicated to illustrious figures from Malaga.

Alcazaba Fortress

The best preserved alcazaba in Spain, this incredible fortress was built during the period of Arabic rule in Spain and the Hammudid dynasty of the early 11th century. During your visit, your students can discover the ruins of the connecting Castle of Gibralfaro, as well as the remnants of a Roman theatre which dates back even further to the 1st century BC.

Castilo Gibralfaro

Sitting high on a hill overlooking the city, the magnificent Castle of Gibralfaro dates from the 10th century. The castle offers an excellent setting to teach students about Spain’s rich history as the Caliphate of Cordoba, and how customs under Arabic rule differed from today. Gibralfaro is also the site of the famous three-month siege by Catholic monarchs – the first conflict in which gunpowder was used by both sides.

Atarazanas Market

Offering a fantastic opportunity for your students to practise their language skills, Atarazanas Market is one of the most important shopping sites in the city. But it’s not just the excellent tapas that draws in both locals and tourists alike; the building is also a key representation of 19th century architecture in the city.

Malaga Cathedral and Rooftop Entry

Established on the site of a former mosque, Malaga’s Renaissance-styled cathedral was built over a period of more than 150 years, finishing in 1782. To this day, its southern tower remains unfinished, earning it the nickname ‘La Manquita’ (or ‘one-armed woman’). We recommend student groups climb to the cathedral’s rooftop, where they’ll be spoilt by panoramic views across the city.

La Rosaleda Stadium

Relive some of Malaga FC’s finest moments on a tour of this famous football stadium, which offers pioneering social, cultural, sporting and educational opportunities across Andalucia. On your visit, groups will be shown the most symbolic parts of the stadium, from the museum and the pitch, to the VIP area and Presidential box.

Flamenco Lesson

It may take years to perfect the dance form of flamenco, the folkloric music tradition of southern Spain, but students can learn the basics with an evening of culture in a welcoming Malaga dance centre. We’ve seen student groups immerse themselves in the spirit of the dance, encouraged by friendly flamenco musicians and their atmospheric guitar accompaniment.

Malagueta Bullring

A cultural asset of Spain and one of Malaga’s most famous attractions, this controversial bullring offers more than bullfighting, as it is used as the venue for concerts and food fairs throughout the year. For a deeper dive into the bullring’s more traditional use, students can also explore the Antonio Ordóñez Bullfighting Museum, which features historic costumes and posters.

Visit Cordoba

Filled with Moorish-Christian heritage, four UNESCO-protected sites, and the largest Old Town in Spain, Cordoba is home to several fantastic attractions. On a day trip, groups can easily visit Mezquita-Catedral, the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos, the Roman Bridge (and nearby Calahorra Tower), the fountains at Plaza de las Tendillas, and Calleja de las Flores (Alley of the Flowers) – one of the prettiest streets in Spain.

Visit Granada

With its rich blend of history, culture and stunning architecture, a day trip to Granada should not be missed. Highlights include the incredible Alhambra Palace, as well as the Albaicin neighbourhood, with its labyrinth of narrow streets, whitewashed house and stunning view points.
