Spanish language school trips to Granada

Granada’s cathedral is an impressive structure which, like many other cathedrals in Andalusia, was built on the site of a former mosque following the reconquest of Granada in 1492. The building is a fine example of Spanish Renaissance and Gothic architecture, and comprises five naves – each one staggered in height and with its own distinct features.

Like a pearl set in emeralds, Alhambra (translated as ‘The Red One’) is a breathtaking palace and fortress located on the outskirts of the Dehesa del Generalife – a huge, sprawling green space. While visiting this Moorish fortified palace, students will be free to explore the Generalife summer residence and gardens, learning about Arabic rule in Andalucia as they go.

It may take years to perfect the dance form of flamenco, the folkloric music tradition of southern Spain, but students can learn the basics with an evening of culture in a welcoming Granada dance centre. We’ve seen student groups immerse themselves in the spirit of the dance, encouraged by friendly flamenco musicians and their atmospheric guitar accompaniment.

A huge, interactive museum spanning over 70,000 square metres, the Parque de las Ciencias is an excellent excursion for science groups owing to its wide variety of permanent and temporary exhibitions. Inside, your students will find educational activities to boost their understanding of the human body, risk perception, innovations, ecosystems and the universe – as well as an amazing planetarium and cultural gallery.

A popular activity for language groups, this treasure hunt challenges students to put their Spanish skills to the test, with a series of clues that’ll lead them to discover new and exciting sights in the city. What’s more, they’ll be able to enjoy a healthy serving of churros – a fried dough dessert usually topped with cinnamon sugar and dipped in chocolate – at the end.

We can’t wait to show you the Monastery of St. Jerome, which was the first church in the world consecrated to the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Built in the Renaissance style, the church is famous for its architecture, and features two cloisters which each tell stories of tradition and religion through their intricate decoration.

Located in the typically Moorish city of Córdoba, the impressive Mezquita de Cordoba tells an architectural story that spans 800 years. Between its realisation as a mosque in the year 785, and its completion with a central cathedral in the 16th century, the Mezquita combines Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Christian architecture, as well as some of the world’s greatest examples of Islamic architecture.

Filled with Moorish-Christian heritage, four UNESCO-protected sites, and the largest Old Town in Spain, Cordoba is home to several fantastic attractions. On a day trip, groups can easily visit Mezquita-Catedral, the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos, the Roman Bridge (and nearby Calahorra Tower), the fountains at Plaza de las Tendillas, and Calleja de las Flores (Alley of the Flowers) – one of the prettiest streets in Spain.

A fascinating mix of history, culture, art, and coastal beauty, Malaga is well worth an addition to your Spanish school trip. Highlights include the well-preserved Alcazaba Moorish fortress, with beautiful gardens and panoramic views, and the Gibralfaro Castle. The birthplace of Pablo Picasso, Malaga is also great for artistic inspiration and a visit to the Picasso museum is a must.
