Helena Cresswell

Meet your trainer - Helena Cresswell (H)

H's love of the outdoors began when she was inspired on her first residential visit to a Derbyshire outdoor centre, as a wide eyed 11-year-old. Having never taken part in anything like that before, she came away knowing that “this is what I want to do for the rest of my life”.

Previously, H spent almost 20 years working in various positions for a Local Authority education department in the realm of outdoor and adventurous education, off-site and residential visits. H has both organised and delivered a range of outdoor and adventurous activities. Through this first-hand experience, she understands how important and valuable these experiences are to children and young people.

Bayeux Tapestry

Bayeux Cathedral

This magnificent Gothic structure, consecrated in 1077, stands as a testament to the town's rich heritage. As you step inside Bayeux Cathedral, you'll be awed by the soaring vaulted ceilings, intricate stained glass windows, and the serene atmosphere that fills the space. The cathedral's crypt and medieval frescoes offer further insights into its storied past.

Bayeux Market

Bayeux market is a delightful way to experience the local culture and flavors of Normandy. Held in the heart of the town, this bustling market offers a vibrant array of stalls featuring fresh produce, artisanal cheeses, baked goods, and handcrafted items.

Cider Farm and tasting

Normandy is famous for its apple orchards and traditional cider-making techniques, producing some of the finest ciders in France. We'll visit a cider farm where you can taste and learn about the production process.

British Cemetery

Normandy offers a poignant journey through history, honoring the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought in World War II. We'll visit the British Cemetery in Bayeux, where rows of white headstones stand as a solemn tribute to fallen soldiers.

The American Cemetery

The Normandy American Cemetery is located in Colleville-sur-Mer. This cemetery is a deeply moving site, overlooking Omaha Beach and the English Channel. It is the final resting place for 9,389 American military personnel who lost their lives during the D-Day landings and subsequent operations . The cemetery also features a memorial with a semicircular colonnade, a reflecting pool, and a chapel, all designed to honor the bravery and sacrifice of the fallen.

Omaha Beach

A visit to Omaha Beach is a deeply moving experience, offering a powerful connection to the events of D-Day on June 6, 1944. This beach, one of the five landing sites during the Normandy Invasion, witnessed some of the fiercest fighting as American troops from the 1st and 29th Infantry Divisions stormed ashore.

Arromanches 360 Cinema

Arromanches 360 Cinema is a captivating way to delve into the history of the D-Day landings. Located on the clifftops of Arromanches-les-Bains, this circular cinema offers a unique immersive experience with films projected on nine screens, providing a panoramic view of the events that unfolded during the Battle of Normandy.

Pegasus Bridge and Museum

Pegasus Bridge and the Pegasus Memorial Museum offers a profound insight into the events of D-Day. Located between Caen and the sea, Pegasus Bridge was a crucial strategic point captured by the British 6th Airborne Division on the night of June 5-6, 1944. The museum houses a wealth of artifacts, including weapons, gliders, and documents, that tell the story of this pivotal operation.
