German language school trips to the Black Forest

Formed from a glacier in the last ice age, the Titisee lake stretches across more than one and a half kilometres of the Black Forest region and is a popular spot for swimming, sailing, a walk, and – weather permitting – even ice skating. As well as an exciting centre of activity, the lake also offers students the opportunity to discover the geographical intricacies that led to the lake’s basin being carved out.

An excellent excursion for geography students, this trip to Triberg Waterfalls offers groups the opportunity to visit one of the highest waterfalls in Germany and see the Gutach River cascade 163 metres down into a rocky valley. The waterfalls are also within walking distance from the Black Forest town of Triberg, where you can visit the world’s largest cuckoo clock and hear the roar of water as you wander around the town’s pretty streets.

Take the opportunity to ride Germany’s longest two-way gondola system on this excursion, which will take you and your students 1,294 metres to the top of Schauinsland mountain. Here, you can take in the panoramic views across Freiburg and the Black Forest; on a clear day you can see as far as the Swiss Alps.

Embark on an exciting journey through many centuries at this museum, which invites school groups to discover what life was like in the historic High Black Forest. Here, students can learn about historic Black Forest clocks, mechanical orchestras and typical crafts, while they immerse themselves in the world of mining in the region’s model gallery. The museum is also located close to the famous Triberg Waterfalls, which we know your students will love.

Students can develop a full understanding of traditional crafts and agriculture in the Black Forest at this Open Air Museum, which is centred on the Vogtsbauernhof farmhouse and dates back to 1612. Explore the runnings of a 17th-century mill, barns, and a ‘granny house’ at the museum, and see demonstrations of the crafts, tools and customs of former times.

Located on a perch that overlooks both France's Vosges and Germany's Black Forest, the Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg is far more than the fairytale castle you'll see at first glance.
