• Brilliant beginner area
• Close to Sportwelt Amade
• Good value ski pass
• Great by coach

This is delightful Salzburgerland ski area is brilliant for beginners, and, as the piste map makes clear, is far from negligible for other standards as well. Werfenweng specialises in amiable, undemanding runs for confidence-building and fast development. The progression is excellent and the reds are manageable by most early intermediates.
It's only 5 mins by coach from our hotel to the village lifts, where there are nursery drags and a main chair. This goes up to a high bowl at 1834m which has excellent snow and skiing for most standards. From the top, keen beginners may be able to manage the red and long blue right back to the village. If not they can take the chair down. There's another 2 entry points both about 15 mins by coach.
Werfenweng will satisfy most school groups and is especially good for beginners and early intermediates. For more mileage and challenge, opt for the Sportwelt Amade area which is only 1/2hr by coach and is available at a supplement.

This is a very pretty hamlet with chocolate box charm and reasonable facilities.

HOTEL BERGHOF 1* (cap 110)

Clean, well equipped and spacious
Great public areas
Only 2mins from lifts

Although a brilliant choice for a school group this is something of a blast from the past with its rather large rooms and communal shower facilities. Nevertheless, we are certain it will be a great success because it's actually a high standard hotel overall with some terrific features.
The Berghof is clean, well organised, practical, well equipped and spacious. School groups have plenty to entertain them and the simple, robust style of the place is reassuring. It is a pleasant, 2 storey building on the outskirts of the village, 2 mins from the lifts. The skibus stops outside. The owner is a farmer and produces meat and milk for the hotel in the traditional Austrian way. He is friendly and professional, speaks good English and takes great pride in his hotel.
The public areas are great. There's tons of space and a variety of rooms which can be used for study, recreation or evening entertainment. The small terrace backs onto a floodlit slope which is perfect for bumboarding and evening activities.
The children stay mainly in bunk bedded rooms for 6 with washbasin only. WCs are on the corridor and showers are on the ground floor. They are bright, modern and clean. Teachers rooms are usually en-suite.
