OUR SUMMARY
Great value, doorstep-skiing and superb learning slopes. Recent investment has radically improved the lifts and pistes.
This picturesque area, only 11/2hrs from Verona, is perfect for school parties and we recommend it very highly. You have an undemanding ski area with good progression, pretty villages with character, and friendly people who are patient and welcoming to school children.
The skiing has improved greatly in recent years. Pistes have been remodelled and lifts have been built so that Serrada/Folgaria now has more variety and scope. Beginners were always suited but suddenly it's great for intermediates too. System development here is positively frenzied. We have never known a lift company do so much, so quickly. More snow cannons and chairlifts appear every year!
Beginners have sheltered nursery slopes and good snow at altitude to inspire confidence. Progression is easy and natural and there are interesting journeys on pretty tree runs. Intermediates have an array of well kept, fairly amiable blues and reds and quite high mileage of 100km. The best area, about 60km, is just above Folgaria and Serrada, and offers open bowl skiing with various runs through the trees on undulating gentle slopes which are great fun for youngsters. A moving-carpet type beginners lift, right behind our Hotel Martinella, was added last year. Modern snow-making now covers almost the whole system and there's a new skating rink.
The English speaking Ski School is friendly and helpful, as are all the local suppliers. Overall, Serrada/Folgaria is notably good value and a good place to learn and develop ski technique. It is deservedly popular with schools and Italian families.
The village of Folgaria is quite a long way from the lifts; but it has lots of atmosphere of the Sud Tirol variety, and is certainly worth visiting. The Hotel Monte Maggio is in Fondo Grande, just above Folgaria, and is actually in the ski system itself at the meeting point of lifts and pistes. It could not be more convenient. There are a few farm buildings and the odd bar dotted around. The Hotel Martinella is in picturesque Serrada and is well positioned at the bottom of the main run back to the village with a chairlift just outside. Serrada is a typical Trentino farming village, stone built, timber roofed, and full of charm. The Santa Rosalia is in Costa, which is also a ski village, and is very close to Folgaria.

Folgaria is an alpine gem. With its onion domed church, shops and coffee houses, it recalls the days when the Sud Tyrol was part of Austria. It has all the traditional winter pursuits and always seems to have a festive, Christmassy atmosphere. It's only 5mins drive from our hotels and we certainly suggest at least one evening for shopping and a night out.

HOTEL MARTINELLA 3* (cap110)
Serrada
High quality 3 star, with a great position next to lift and piste but still central.

We are delighted with this excellent 3 star hotel, which which has been a fantastic success in its first season. It could hardly be better situated, being right at the bottom of a blue run, next to a new chair lift, but still close to the village shops and sports centre. A new moving-carpet type beginners lift was added last year and is right behind the hotel.

You can ski straight from the hotel to the chair lift, which then takes you to the heart of the Serrada - Folgaria system.
The Martinella is a prominent building near the center of this traditional Trentino village. It has recently been completely refurbished, but has kept its charm, and is now a superb 3 star. A new Austrian-type cellar bar with karaoke has been added. The Martinella is modern, clean and comfortable and has large and pleasant public areas. The rooms are spacious and all have private facilities, TV and telephone. It will work well with British school groups.

BUDGET COACH
Hotel Monte Maggio 2*
Fondo Grande (cap 120)

Friendly family run hotel with excellent food, doorstep skiing and separate recreation area for schools

This is one of the friendliest hotels in our brochure. Fabio will go out of his way to make you welcome and happy and the food is excellent. The bedrooms are a bit basic, but the public areas are excellent, and all our many school parties have been delighted with their stay.
It's in a quiet area, so supervision is easy, and the position for skiers could not possibly be improved. You ski back virtually to the door. There's a brand new 4 person chair next to the hotel or you can walk or skate to other lifts in 3/4mins. There are a few other mountain buildings dotted around.

The Monte Maggio is large and comfortable and is geared to schools. There are special recreation areas and the staff are especially helpful and tolerant. There are massive public areas and a separate recreation area especially for schools. You can more or less do what you like and there is never any friction with adult guests.

BUDGET COACH
HOTEL SANTA ROSALIA 3 star (cap 130) Costa di Folgaria
An elegant and modern hotel with loads of charm and good facilities

The Hotel Santa Rosalia is located in the ski village of Costa di Folgaria, just outside Folgaria itself, 8mins walk from the chair lift. If required, there's a local ski bus and coach groups have their own transport. At Costa, there's a pleasant bit of skiing fed by a beginners drag and a 4 person chair. A new chair lift is presently under construction ready for next season. This is an elegant and modern hotel, completely refurbished 4 years ago to very high standards of comfort and safety, but still with its original charm intact. There is a large restaurant, pleasant bar and TV lounge. The bedrooms are spacious, comfortable and light. All have private facilities. There are also 2 large meeting rooms that can be used by school groups.
