OUR SUMMARY
One of France's premier resorts with superb skiing for all abilities. Our hotel is in a quiet, safe area and is great for schools
What Alpe D'Huez lacks in the chocolate box stakes it more than makes up for as a true skier's resort. It's one of France's real big hitters and has a deeply impressive array of virtues. The lift system, snow-making and piste design are all top class and it's all blissfully easy to use. Although the skiing suits everyone, oddly enough, beginners and experts are particularly well suited. The way to appreciate alpine charm as well as some of the best skiing in France is to stay in Vaujany. There's a nice bit of local skiing and an incredible 160 capacity cable-car, which will whoosh you up to Alpe d'Huez in minutes. This lift is only 200m from our hotel and there's also a gondola at 1km. Overall, it's great for school groups.
Alpe d'Huez is well known for sunny skiing on its large, mostly south facing bowl and plateau. The height and the snow cannons keep the snow in good order and there's always the glacier if conditions are poor.
Beginners have vast nursery slopes close to the resort centre and an array of wide, gentle greens. Intermediates have long, sweeping blues and tricky reds. Experts have all the challenges they can handle, including the longest black in the world.
Our hotel is located in pretty Vaujany, a village of incredible antiquity bearing evidence of the Stone Age, Bronze Age and the Romans! It sits on what was once a strategically important pass and is now an alpine village of the picture postcard variety.

An attractive and interesting village with plenty of character and an immediate connection to one of the biggest ski circuits in Europe!
skating rink (free entry) activities hall with table-tennis, slide-shows, cinema and other activities snow-shoe excursions with local specialities themed evenings in local restaurants two night clubs library multi-media room with free email and Web access swimming complex with large pool, paddling pool, waterfall, sauna, jacuzzi, Turkish bath and health centre bars and restaurants

BUDGET COACH
Chalet Cote Belle 2star (cap51)
Brand new hotel in a safe, quiet area. Will work well for school groups.

This new hotel (only a year old!) is in the quiet village of Villette, 200m from the Vaujany cable car and 1km from the gondola. It is simple but safe, well kept and purpose-built for schools. The coaches can park right outside the front door. The huge dining room has windows all along one wall looking at the mountains down the valley. There is a cosy lounge with a fireplace, a games room and a separate ski room. The bedrooms share adequate shower and WC facilities.
