Completely genuine and charming Salzburgerland
village. Not touristy but unspoilt and authentic.
Fairly quiet, but with a few bars and cafés.

Gasthaus
Mauser-Muhltaler (cap 98)
Good
family-run gasthaus with excellent food in a traditional
17c building.
We rightly recommend this hotel for school parties.
The Mauser-Muhltaler is a family Gasthaus in the centre
of Mauterndorf, in a graceful, tree-lined street, opposite
the church. The village gondola is 5mins by coach or skibus
which stops outside.
The hotel is a remarkable 17c building which once was
a brewery although it looks almost ecclesiastical with
its arches and vaulted corridors.

It
is beautifully kept. All the bedrooms are uniform. They have
shower, WC, wash basin, 2 or 3 sets of strong bunks, an open
locker for each bed, then a set of table and chairs. The furniture
is substantial, tasteful and well made. Everything is spotlessly
clean. There are a few 10 and 8 bedded rooms all with lots
of storage space. There are 2 dining rooms and one of them
is extraordinary. It is decorated in ornate, sombre, heavy
wood and has an ancient ceramic stove with figurines. The
food is very good here. The lady of the house speaks excellent
English and is very friendly.
This excellent Gasthaus is utilitarian but not hostel-like;
well-kept but warm and friendly; beautifully furnished, but
robust and child-proof. In other words, it's exactly right
for a school party.
