OUR
SUMMARY
Bullet-proof snow security, a high village, towering
lift system and the biggest skiable glacier in The
Alps. Enormous, easy blue runs on the glacier. Lively
and friendly village with lots to do.
Although just as convenient as any purpose-built
resort, Les Deux Alpes is warm and lively, mostly
with low-rise buildings and has plenty of hotels
which provide the atmosphere lacking in an apartment
resort.
Les Deux Alpes occupies a high, wide and sunny valley
with excellent skiing on both sides. The runs you
can see from the resort are only half the picture.
On top is the biggest skiable glacier in the Alps
where there's skiing 365 days a year. This enormous,
high plateau offering crisp snow, sunshine, and
easy runs well above the tree-line is one of the
best things about Les Deux Alpes. It's great for
beginners who have terrific progression and wonderful
snow conditions. The ski school is good as well,
so we recommend Les Deux Alpes even to novices,
because progress is swift and painless. There are
more nursery slopes and lifts in the village but
it's best to go up top to the wide, sunny, gentle
slopes and great snow. On the south west side the
skiing is sunny and gentle. It's good to ski here
in the morning if it's cold, then move round to
the opposite slopes and the main part of the system.
Early and late intermediates enjoy endless cruising
runs, stupendous 3600 views and some surprisingly
difficult runs back to resort. The reds and blacks
are quite a tough test. For beginners, there is
a long, looping green run called L'Escargot but
the gondolas are just as quick.
There is plenty for advanced skiers on the mogulled
blacks above the village, and there are some splendid
fast reds right at the top at over 3000m.
The colossal uplift shifts thousands of skiers per
hour and boasts every conceivable type of lift,
including the astonishing Dome Express, a tube train
drilled straight through the summit of the Dome
de Puy Salié. There are stunning views of
Mont Blanc and endless, perfect snow.
Our hotel is very close to three major lifts, most
notably the telecabine du Diable which zooms up
to 2400m in no time.
The village, although mostly modern, is open and
attractive and buzzes with life. Free buses circulate
until late. Your lift pass includes free entrance
to the outdoor heated swimming pool, ice skating
rink (not incl. skate hire) and a one day ski pass
to Montgenevre, Serre Chevalier and Alpe d'Huez,
(transport not included). Les Deux Alpes is a genuine
all-rounder with something for everyone. |

Hotel
des Neiges (cap 89)
This
is one of our most popular hotels so book early! It's close
to the lifts and amenities and the excellent public areas
have recently been refurbished
We
dramatically improved our Hotel Des Neiges for season 2002/3
by re-partitioning the ground floor so that we created a much
larger bar area with big windows looking out to the resort.
It's a great success. We also re-tiled the basement which
has games room, TV and video.
This 2 star Equity-run hotel is popular so we recommend an
early booking. It's ideally situated only a couple of mins
from 3 major lifts and is next to lively Place Venosc which
has a great atmosphere. Nearby are lots of bars, a swimming
pool, skating rink, cinema, bowling, 3 night clubs and several
amusement halls.
The Des Neiges is comfortable, modern and attractive, with
a bright and cheery atmosphere. The dining room is nicely
furnished and has huge windows with great views of the resort
and mountains. The bar is warm and friendly. There is also
a basement recreation space which has a games room and TV
room.
The bedrooms are pleasant and well-designed. All have telephone
and private facilities. Some have bunks.
