OUR SUMMARY
The whole 310kms now links by piste and lift! Ski to the terrace of our excellent, Equity-run hotel, which has sauna, steam room and gym
.

Designed in the '60s by the famous modernist architect Le Corbusier and named after him, Le Corbier started life as one of those medium sized 3rd generation resorts with 75kms of purpose-built skiing with the accent on convenience. But now that the pass includes La Toussuire and St Sorlin d'Arves, it has become a magnificent ski area of over 300 km, which can hold its own with some household-name resorts with a big price tag.
The snow record is excellent. The village is at 1550m, the top station is at 2600m, and there's plenty of snow cannons. The main thing about any purpose-built resort is the quality of the skiing. None of these 3 areas disappoint but the Le Corbier part is exceptional for schools. Beginners have plenty of easy slopes on good snow. Keen intermediates can enjoy enormous blue runs which give dramatic views and that exciting sense of journey. Advanced skiers revel in the huge mileage and variety.
Le Corbier already links with La Toussuire which has mostly intermediate skiing in an enormous bowl. There's a blue run and an easy red run back, and beginners can take the chair lift if they like. Now that picturesque St Sorlin d'Arves and St Colomban link by piste and lift a further 75kms has been added.
No-one could describe Le Corbier as an eyeful of classic chocolate box charm. No doubt Le Corbusier had something else in mind. It's uncompromising and stark, with an arrestingly dramatic setting which the daring architecture somehow enhances. It's also practical and convenient. Vehicles park outside the traffic-free village which curves around the foot of the mountain so that the nursery slopes run right up to the wooden decking. It's also safe, easy to use, well equipped and noticeably friendly. Most of the shops and cafés in the piste-front gallery have been run by the same families since the resort opened.
Our Hotel Le Mont Corbier is one of our best Equity-run hotels and has a brilliant position. The coach deposits passengers at the front and the pistes are out the back! The convenience factor also extends to the airport transfer. From Turin, you can be through the Frejus tunnel, up the hill and entering the hotel in 2 hours.

The warm and friendly atmosphere belies the stark modernity of the resort. There is something organised every week, like tournaments, races and shows. It's convenient, safe and traffic free. Everything is organised within the arcade fronting the slopes. The village is fairly quiet, but friendly and there's "one of everything".

Hotel Le Mont Corbier (cap 112)

Brilliant position, ski-in and ski-out convenience. High standard hotel with fitness area, sauna, solarium, table-tennis and TV/video room.

Our superb Equity-run hotel is at one end of the resort, next to the skating rink, but is still only a 3/4min walk to the other end. It has a fantastic position. The front of the hotel has amazing views overlooking a wide valley with mountain backdrop, and the slopes and lifts are all at the rear. It's only 40m to a beginners drag and you can ski back to the outside sun terrace. It could not be more convenient. The Hotel Le Mont Corbier is one of the best in our brochure. It is modern, practical and smart with excellent public facilities. Officially a 2 star, we would say it's closer to a 3 star. The décor is high quality with lots of traditional beams, panels and carved wooden ornaments. The owner is a first class carpenter and all the work is of a superb standard. The family built virtually everything in the hotel.
The terracotta tiles and pleasant pastel coloured wall coverings give a modern, clean but warm feel. The bedrooms are wood panelled, softly lit, and have good furniture. All bedrooms have balcony, bathroom (bath with shower, wash basin, hairdryer) and separate WC.
The hotel is well equipped and the public areas are spacious. The restaurant has fantastic views. There's a TV lounge with fireplace and a good sized bar with doors straight out to the large, south-facing sun terrace. The smart fitness room has a sauna (small charge). The ski room with individually numbered lockers exits straight on to the snow.
fitness room with rowing machine, stepper, wall bars, WC, 2 power showers, sauna (small charge), hairdryers and loungers games room with video games, and table pool cosy reception with attractive decor pool table restaurant with fantastic views lounge with tables, chairs, soft furniture, TV, video, DVD and open fire bar with sun terrace ski room with individual lockers
