OUR SUMMARY
" Lovely old village with character, doorstep skiing and exceptional convenience. Very high and snow sure with 2 free days on the Italian Milky Way included on the pass."

Always one of our most popular destinations, this lovely little village continues to improve every year and if you first brought a school group here a few seasons ago you have a surprise in store. You'll find all the charm still intact but the improvements to the village and the developing relationship with neighbouring Montgenevre have propelled Claviere into a different league. New lifts have already been built including a chair almost opposite our hotel Passero Pellegrino and there's more to come up top, towards the Coletto Verde.
There are so many of the right ingredients in place here. The local skiing is excellent but our special pass also includes 2 free days on the rest of the Milky Way, one of the biggest systems in the world. In the near future, perhaps even by next year, it will be possible to ski all the way down to Cesana and pick up new, fast links into Sansicario. There is a lot of development going on ready for the 2006 Olympics.
Our ski map never does justice to Claviere because it's such a small part of the Milky Way, but the local area is excellent. The runs are varied and attractive, curving through trees on the shoulders of the high divide between Italy and France. For beginners, there's a pleasant, flat area in the village and an enormous blue, from above the trees right to the village. It's quite demanding but enthusiastic beginners will feel a great sense of achievement when they manage it. Intermediates have the best choice including some adventurous little paths through trees and some long, fast blues. Advanced skiers have little challenge in Claviere but there is some inspiring off-piste, usually in excellent snow, plus the Milky Way to explore. It's a long day but a great one. First lift out, last lift back!
Montgenevre is also a good day out and the links with Montgenevre are developing all the time. Early intermediates can manage the village links and good intermediates can enjoy the Coletto Verde, one of the best runs on the Milky Way. From the top of the Rochet De L'Aigle there's a wild and beautiful run home, semi off-piste, followed by a colossal schuss.
Its height at nearly 1800m means Claviere is immensely snow sure. This village was one of Italy's first ski resorts and there's an attractive sense of ski tradition. It has masses of character and low-priced, border-town shopping. We recommend the ski school. Another of the nice things about Claviere are the many traditional mountain restaurants which can be reached by all levels of skier. We organise a lively après ski programme including a laugh-a-minute skidoo ride to a mountain restaurant for an Italian banquet. The local karaoke bar and ice skating rink are also good fun. Montgenevre is a brisk 20min walk or an inexpensive taxi ride.

Our unbeatable choice for schools. Small, quiet and picturesque, but with a good mix of amusements and well priced shopping. Claviere has bags of character and charm.

Hotel Passero Pellegrino (cap 180)
An old favourite that always works really well. Good food, great position, well-run by Salvatore and his friendly family. Last year's refurbishments include a small gym, sauna and Sky TV.

This comfortable and friendly 3 star was refurbished last year and the improvements will immediately be evident to its large following. There's a new sauna, gym, a second lift, and a remodelled ski room equipped with new carving skis, new Salomon boots and boot warmers. Behind the scenes, there's a new hot water system and kitchen.
The position is perfect. You just cross the road and join the easy slope to the nursery lifts or pick up a chair about 50m away. Behind the hotel, about 150m, a chairlift takes you to the south facing Montgenevre slopes.
The Passero Pellegrino is a handsome old hotel, typical of the Piemonte, with good public facilities and lots of space. The basement taverna 'Ski Legends' is popular locally. The lounges and dining room have lots of character with their wooden floors and good, solid furniture.

Most of the rooms are 2-4 bedded and include some apartment style rooms in a newer wing which has its own lounge. All the bedrooms are clean and pleasant and have private facilities. Some have balcony. We would say the bedrooms are two star and the public facilities 3 star. The food and hospitality are excellent. As usual, you will be in Salvatore's capable hands and will receive the warmest welcome. Vegetarians are well catered for.

Hotel Roma (cap 100)
Good food and hospitality
Centre of village close to nursery slopes
Original village building
.
Unbelievable value from this simple and traditional hotel. Family hospitality, good food and a brilliant position.
We have used the Hotel Roma for 12 years with great success. Although simple, it's well looked after and improves a bit every year. The food and hospitality are always terrific.
Perfectly placed in the middle of the village but almost on the nursery slopes, the Roma is one of our most successful hotels. With its creaky wooden floors, prints from bygone eras and old fashioned style, it is a pleasant reminder of the early days of skiing and is one of the original village buildings. The Roma has 2 stars but we think it's closer to a good one star. It's basic but it's always really successful with our groups.
The Roma is clean, spacious, well-organised for schools and the food is excellent.. Most of the rooms are for 2-5 and almost all have private facilities. The 9 that don't are next to corridor facilities. Giuliano and his English wife Diane will provide you with a hospitable and enjoyable stay.
Great position TV/video room large and small lounges games room with video games separate large and small dining areas self-serve buffet breakfast safe friendly bar, open to the public doorstep skiing

VILLA FELICITA 2 star (cap 55)
A simple, clean and notably friendly hotel close to the Montgenevre lifts.

This small and friendly hotel is run by the easygoing couple who are very good with school groups. The Felicita is cosy, simple and clean and is a fair 2 star. It is 10mins walk from the Claviere slopes, behind the Passero Pellegrino, and you can store skis and boots here so the walk is absolutely no problem. The new chair to Montgenevre is 2/3mins. All rooms have private facilities and sleep either 2 or 4.
