• Enchanting village
• Very traditional
• Great for beginners

In a country which prides itself on tradition, this captivating village is undoubtedly the most traditional of all. A favourite with the British since the 1950's, despite the enormous ski circuses that have grown up, Alpbach still thrives and still a quarter of its skiers are British. Even so, Alpbach's picture book charm remains intact and jealously guarded.
The village and nursery slopes are the perfect place to learn to ski and there's easy runs at altitude as well. Alpbach is stuck with the reputation as a beginners resort but it's just as good for enthusiastic intermediates who have some long runs and some challenging reds. The blacks can also be managed by intermediates. The distance from village to ski area looks like a drawback but the skibus service is so efficient and frequent there's no need to do any walking at all. Of course coach groups have their own transport.
This charming rural village, deliberately stuck in its time-warp, is unique in the ski world and despite the small size of the ski area, it still figures on most "must ski" lists. The quality of the beginner and early intermediate skiing make it a perfect choice for schools.

Unspoilt, picturesque, idyllic. All new buildings are traditional - by order. Well-equipped and notably friendly.

HOTEL PAULINGHOF (cap 85)
This is a very traditional converted farmhouse run by the family Rinnergschwentner who specialise in looking after families and parties of young people. The interesting thing about the Paulinghof is that this is still a real working farm so guests sample home-grown produce and enjoy a really warm and friendly atmosphere.
The Paulinghof is a handsome building with a good location 25 mins from Alpbach. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful scenery - mountains, woods and a tumbling river.

The bedrooms are a mixture of rooms and apartments for 2-7. There are 8 bedrooms with shower and WC, 3 with shower only, and 6 with shared facilities on the corridor. The new part of the hotel has 2 apartments for 7 which have a lounge/bedroom with TV and a small dining area with adjacent kitchen. Overall, we recommend the Paulinghof for its authentic farmhouse atmosphere and good value.

Ski the Ziller Valley
For a supplement, more experienced groups may wish to exchange their pass for the Ziller Valley ski pass. It's only 30mins from our hotel and is Austria's biggest. The huge variety of runs offer great skiing for both intermediates and advanced skiers.
