Your Equity Ski Representative

During the peak weeks of the ski season we send hundreds of groups from the UK to Europe and America. When travelling with Equity, every ski trip has their own Equity representative. These reps are an integral part of every school’s trip and contribute hugely to their ski experience. Find out first-hand from Oliver O’Donnell what being a rep entails... " Who would volunteer to work on their week off? Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it? Not if your work involves a week away in Les Deux Alpes in the heart of the Alps! Back on the 1st April, I was embarking on a journey to take Marriotts Sports College from Stevenage on the holiday of a lifetime. The same could be said for me, although I had more responsibilities than them! I introduced myself to the teaching staff and then gave my introductory speech to the children to get them excited for the week. We relaxed in the high-quality coaches and I went through the itinerary with the staff so I could understand their requirements for the week. Knowing exactly what they want ensures they have the most positive experience possible. Fast forward a weary twenty hours or so later and…

First day skiing in Saalbach, Austria

Last Saturday, 19th November I had my first ski day of the season. I love the first day of the season, and although I’ve had since April to get the items we all need prepared, for me it’s always a last minute rush to find gloves and a helmet - even the ski trousers are never where you think they are! This ski day was a special ski day. In the last 20 plus years I’ve skied many times in October and November on the Kitzsteinhorn, Hintertux and Stubai glaciers in Austria, but I have never skied in a non-glacier resort at this time of year, purely for the reason they generally just aren’t open until the beginning of December, however this year Saalbach, Zell am See, Obertauern, Zauchensee (in the Amadé region) and Kitzbuhel (to name a few) made that commitment to showcase the early snow and opened some of their lifts for the locals and passers-by who happened to be in the right place at the right time. My starting point was Leogang, which is part of the Saalbach Hinterglemm, Leogang and Fieberbrunn Ski Circus (my local resort). I arrived in the car park at 08.15 to be…

Equity supporting the Kingsley Ski Team

At Equity we are passionate about the development of young people and what can be achieved through sport. We are proud to have helped the Kingsley Ski Team by sponsoring skis and jackets for their school ski team. The school now has 18 girls in the race squad and 16 girls in the development squad. Last month the group qualified their Year 8 team and an open age team through to the English Schools Championships which were held in Norwich at the beginning of October. They also made the top 3 for The Coventry and Warwickshire School Sports Team of the Year. Ski team manager Alan Edwards has said, “this would not have been possible without the generous sponsorship from Equity.” We wish the girls all the best for their upcoming events and future skiing endeavours.

So long, farewell, we will miss you Hotel Beausoleil!

The Hotel Beausoleil has long been a favourite for Equity school groups, RocketSki travellers and many staff who enjoyed winter season positions. In one of the best slopeside positions in Alpe d’Huez, with a stunning sun terrace, the hotel was a flagship building within the resort. For over 17 ski seasons with Equity (during this time also operating as; STS School Travel Service, SkiPlan & Equity School Ski) it's bar and terrace were enjoyed by many skiiers who came off the slopes to sit in the sun, enjoying a drink and some fantastic food. Built in 1960, the hotel is being knocked down and replaced with chalet style apartments. But the memories of the hotel will not be forgotten; whether it be the smiles from Equity students having completed their first blue run, karaoke and quiz nights or sunny afternoons on the terrace. Here are some of the best memories from staff at Equity who have strong connections with this fabulous hotel... My best memory of the Beausoleil is… ... the view from my bedroom at the top of the hotel. Such a great terrace to have a drink when the sun was out. - David…
